Our Journey of Faith

A vision was given to Rev. Fletcher Jones to establish a church. And by the providence of God, on Friday, January 25, 2002, a meeting was called at the home of Rev. Fletcher Jones and his wife, Sis. Mary Jones. Pastor Jessie L. Gee and Minister Norma Gee of Word of Love Church, along with Rev. James Bean, assisted in that foundational meeting. From this gathering, Holy Land Missionary Baptist Church was formed with charter members present, including: Sister Mary Jones, Brother Novothny Holman, Brother Novorris Holman, Deacon Hubert Jones, Sister Ophelia Jones, Brother Darriel Clark, Brother Samuel Clark, Brother Toni Clark, Brother Devonzic Clark, Sister Vilettie Clark, Sister Maxine Morris, Sister Fletia Jones, Brother Gary Landry, Sister Essie Davison, and Sister Trinetta Clark-Braxton.

On January 27, 2002, the first worship service was held in the home of Rev. Fletcher Jones and Sis. Mary Jones. During this service, additional members united with the church. On January 28, 2002, the church was led to hold services at the Chapel of Oscar Johnson Mortuary, located at 4515 Berry Road.

The first business meeting was held on February 1, 2002. During that meeting, church officers were selected to help establish order and leadership: Deacon Hubert Jones (Chairman of the Deacons), Evangelist Gracie Lewis (Sunday School Superintendent), Brother James Jones (Assistant), and Sister Trinetta Clark-Braxton (Financial Secretary). As the church continued forward, Pastor Fletcher Jones was given a vision to remodel the garage at his home to hold weekly services. The renovation was completed in July 2002, and the church held a dedication service on March 23, 2003.

In April 2003, Evangelist Gracie Lewis was named Co-Pastor of Holy Land Missionary Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Rev. Fletcher Jones, the church experienced growth and new ministries were added to strengthen the work. In April 2004, the church purchased the current property located at 8301 Autumn Lane for the construction of a new church building.

On October 8, 2011, the first groundbreaking service was held. In February 2012, the City of Houston approved the plans to build. The building was completed in October 2013 and approved for occupancy by the city on November 1, 2013. The building dedication service was held on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. Through many challenges, the church continued by faith and overcame obstacles through the grace of God.

In 2022, Rev. Fletcher Jones stepped down due to health reasons. On July 4, 2022, he appointed Rev. Billy Haynes to serve as Pastor of Holy Land Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Haynes served until his sudden passing on November 24, 2022. Pastor Fletcher Jones continue to lead the church and guide the ministry. Due to health reasons he called upon Rev. Theadus Clark (Pastor of Greater Impact Church) to help provide leadership and support with the daily responsibilities of the church.

Pastor Theadus Clark led the church from April 23, 2023, until September 2025. After this season, the church experienced a brief period without a permanent pastor. In September 2025, Rev. Terrance Jones stepped in to serve as Interim Pastor, helping the church remain stable during the transition.

On Sunday, November 16, 2025, the congregation prayerfully voted Rev. Jarvis J. Jermaine Clark as Pastor, and he received the blessing of the Founding Pastor, Rev. Fletcher Jones. In a short period of time, the church has moved forward in renewed structure, strengthened discipleship, and a deeper commitment to doing all things for the glory of God.

With this renewed direction, Holy Land Missionary Baptist Church has adopted the mission, vision, and identity of being a Truth & Life Church, grounded in the words of Jesus Christ: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6, KJV)

Under the leadership of Pastor J. Jermaine Clark, the church has continued advancing in ministry and governance. Two Deacons have been installed, and new Trustees have been added to strengthen leadership and support the work of the ministry. Pastor Clark remains deeply concerned about the spiritual needs of members and individuals in the community who are not yet members working to build the church body through preaching, teaching, prayer, and pastoral care.

Along with spiritual development, the church has embraced the need to improve Gods house through renovations and upgrades, including restoring the tabernacle and improving the church grounds and parking lot. With a renewed commitment to impact the community, Holy Land Missionary Baptist Church Truth & Life Church is striving to be the church God has called it to be: a witness in the neighborhood and a steady spiritual foundation in the world. As Scripture declares, the church is "the house of God... the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth." (1 Timothy 3:15, KJV)

Holy Land Missionary Baptist Church Truth & Life Church continues moving forward by faith, honoring its foundation, strengthening its fellowship, and pressing toward the future God has ordained.
